Where To Find Cheap Flights In South Africa

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

There was a time when South African Airways (SAA) dominated air travel in and around South Africa. Over the years however three other airlines have emerged offering flights within the country and have leveled the playing field so to speak. Them entering the market meant increased competition amongst the airlines. In the airline industry this basically translates to lower airfares.

So your other options now besides SAA are ‘1 Time, Mango and Kulula Airlines. You might not have been aware of it but making a booking for a flight online costs much less than making a reservation by telephone or other means. So if you want a discounted rate then you can always book your tickets over the net.

The prices of airfares are not fixed; they will vary according to the time of the year and the days of the week. If you are going to be flying between Monday and Thursday you will get charged a lower airfare. This is because the other times are considered peak periods of travel were most people want to be on the move. So passengers are now the ones competing for seat during these times making the prices higher ..

Most airlines have since developed what is called an e-ticket. When airlines use tickets they do not use anything on printing, staionery and people; using them will get you a lower rate on your airfare and the nice thing about them is that they do not get lost.

If you want to compare routes, prices and times you would have to go to each of the relevant airline sites but this could take you time. There are sites that have collective information on all the flights within and around the country. You just fill the relevant details concerning your destination and dates and it will give you a list of available flights during that period.

Tips To Find Cheap Flights

Monday, December 7th, 2009

To make for easy reading I’ve listed the tips in point format. The tips are taken from a number of reviews I’ve written and I’ve picked the important ones.

Book in advance

The best way to find a cheap flight is by booking early. leaving your booking for the last minute will result in late bokking charges which are usually high. The earlier you book the better. Try 10 weeks in advance if you can.

Travel midweek

The week days are really the best times to travel that is between Monday and Thursday. After this it can get really costly. I mean the weekends are considered peak time since everyone is traveling - if you want to fly cheap to SA, avoid weekend flights.

Book indirect flights

It is no secret that direct flights are costly. This comes with the convenience of direct flying. If you are looking for the cheapest flights in the literal sense then direst flights are not an option.

Travel in winter

If you ever compared flights in summer and winter then you’d know that winter prices are cheaper. This is because winter is considered off peak in South Africa i.e. midyear since we are in the Southern Hemisphere.

Travel at night

Most flights do occur during night times. However there are also day-flights, which you must avoid if you want to fly cheap. It always a good idea to double check however as sometimes the day flights might be offering a discount.
