Benefits of waterbirthing

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

One of the options most women aren’t familiar with is having a waterbirth. This is the delivery where an expectant mother is placed in a tub filled with water. And that will be the place where she will deliver the baby. There are many benefits to this method.  And although not as commonly known, more women are doing it.We are going to discuss the benefits of these method in this article.

The good thing about this method is that it has a lot of benefits in store for the baby and the mother. As a San Diego midwife I have seen it firsthand. The benefits for the mother is that it will soothe the labor pains.  It allows the muscles to relax more. This will lead to having babies in a faster time and less hardship for the mother during the delivery.

Another benefit is the fact that because it soothes the muscles and eases the pain is no drugs.Waterbirthing lets mothers have their babies naturally most of the time. I have seen it a lot of times while having a waterbirth in San Diego.  Women who usually had to use drugs to ease the pain of delivery don’t have to.The soothing effect of this method allows them to withstand the pain that the delivery brings. This will be good for motheres who do not want drugs used during the delivery of their babies. The reason for this is because they fear that drugs administered during the delivery will affect the baby.

Now in regards to the benefits to the baby it is simple. For nine months, the baby has lived in an environmnet filled with water.By delivering babies through water birth reduces the shock that they experience when they are being delivered. The baby will experience less shock since it will also be going straight into water. It is stressful enough for the baby to undergo a delivery.Reducing that shock a little bit will go a long way.  And these waterbirths can be performed by most midwives San Diego.  They have the experience of performing these types of deliveries. And as you can see it has a lot of benefits for the baby and the mother as well.

How midwives help in pregnancies

If a woman gets pregnant there would be a lot of important decisins that should be decided upon immediately. She needs to go see and choose a doctor. They need to find a suitable hospital where they can give birth to their babies.  And there a few other things.  What most women don’t realize they can also choose a natural delivery. That is when mothers do not want drugs to be administered on them during the delivery itself. With more and more people concerned with health this is a gaining popularity.  One profession that helps in this area is midwifery.

What is the definiton of midwifery?  It is the practice of assisting women to give birth naturally. Of course there are bigger definitions. But this one makes it pretty simple.  As a San Diego midwife that is the job which is to help a woman attempt to deliver naturally.  There are a lot of benefits to this.  Mainly of course no drug use. And without using drugs the delivery goes faster.Because drugs administered to the mother can actually slow down the delivery itself.

These days, women are not only choosing to deliver their babies the natural way but they also choose to deliver their babies at their own homes.  They are choosing the home to deliver their baby. This different from what people are usually doing. But a lot of benefits await the mothers and the babies.  As a homebirth midwife San Diego I have been able to see these benefits firsthand. The privacy of the place is one benefit a mother can get from this method. There is also no need for surgical procedures because the way of giving birth is natural.

There will definitely be objections and sceptics will not stop looking for something to criticize.  Some say there are safety concerns. But if the pregnancy is a low-risk one then this method is very safe.  Now of course it isn’t recommended if the pregnancy is considered high risk.  In my midwife San Diego practice I always advise my clients to go with the normal delivery in a hospital if it is high risk.  That way any concerns can be taken care of by a doctor.

The way midviwes are thought of

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

Midwifery is a profession concerned about the well-being of a pregnant mother. They are there when the mothers are giving birth and they also provide prenatal care. And they also provide postpartum care.In general midwives are not registered nurses but if they choose to become one then they can be and can do so. But they have a governing body so they are being regulated. But what are the wrong things that people think of midwives and midwifery in general?

In general, the misunderstandings happen for those that do homebirths.  In my practice of helping women as a San Diego midwife, homebirths are where people get confused.People think that home birthing is an unsafe way of delivering a baby. But if the pregnancy is a low-risk one then this method is very safe.Midwives also carry necessary medical equipments in case something unavoidable happens. Most complications are avoided because of the method that they deliver babies.

This is where the benefits come.  As some midwives in San Diego perform their services they do it with a natural delivery. This kind of delivery involves no medicine while birthing. No medicine is used to ease the pain of birthing. But not using medication to help ease the pain of birthing is a good thing since it makes the delivery happen faster.Because most of the women do not know that medication will slow down the delivery.  So by avoiding medication they don’t slow down the delivery.

And when the mother decides to undergo water birthing more positive things can be benfited by both the mother and the baby. From doing waterbirth in San Diego in my practice the water eases the delivery. The water soothes the muscles of the pregnant mother resulting to an easier delivery of the baby. Plus the shock and stress that the baby undergoes during birthing can be reduced by being released into water.

As you can see there are some things that people wrongly think of about midwives and their chosen profession. But here’s hoping that people would recognize the safety of this method as long as the pregnancy is low-risk.Also, they have a regulating body. And that is the reason why midwives also need to undergo extensive schooling about their chosen profession. They have knowledge of medical procedures that is required in taking care of a pregnant woman. That is why mothers should not be worried about their safety since all necessary medical equipments are with the midwife. This can be a viable choice for women with low-riskpregnancies.

Misunderstandings of midwives

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

Midwifery is a profession concerned about the well-being of a pregnant mother. They are there when the mothers are giving birth and they also provide prenatal care. And they also provide postpartum care.Midwives are not nurses but if they choose to, they can be. But they have rules and regulations and they also have a governing body.  But where do the misunderstandings come in?

In general, the misunderstandings happen for those that do homebirths.  In my practice of helping women as a San Diego midwife, homebirths are where people get confused.People have this wrong belief that having a baby at home is not safe. But for low risk pregnancy they are safe.Midwives also carry necessary medical equipments in case something unavoidable happens. Most complications are avoided because of the method that they deliver babies.

This is where the benefits come.  As some midwives in San Diego perform their services they do it with a natural delivery.  This is where no medicine is involved to help in labor. No medicine is administered to the mother during birthing. But by not using medicines to help the mother during the delivery the birthing can finish at a faster time.Because most mothers do not know the fact that taking medicines that help ease birthing pains actually slows down the delivery. So by not administering medicine to the mother the delivery would be faster.

Another good thing would be when women deliver using water birth method because this has a lot of benefits for the baby and the mother. From doing waterbirth in San Diego in my practice the water eases the delivery.  The water actually soothes the muscles and allows easer delivery. And another good thing about water birth is that the shock and stress that the baby endures during birthing is reduced.

As you can see there are misunderstanding with midwives. But I’m hoping that you will understand that this method is safe for low-risk pregnancies. And midwives also have rules and regulations given by a governing body.  So midwives do have to go to extensive schooling. They know some medical procedures that may be needed in their said profession. That is why mothers should not be worried about their safety since all necessary medical equipments are with the midwife.  It is a viable choice for women.

Assurance of safely giving birth at home

Friday, August 28th, 2009

One of the choices women have during pregnancy is how they will deliver. What I’m trying to say when I said how they deliver is where do they want to give birth-in the hospital or at their homes. Most women don’t realize they have that choice mainly because they don’t realize that homebirths are safe. But of course there will be skeptics who don’t believe in this method. But if they just research and look for studies about this method then they will realize that there a lot of evidence that this method is safe.

Now the safety of a homebirth has been questioned.  From my observations from my practice as a San Diego midwife I have found it to be absolutely safe. I have witnessed 300 homebirths and I can say that the dangers are just the same either you deliver a baby at home or at the hospital.Having a baby in the hospital or at home doesn’t make any difference in minimizing those risks.  But it also doesn’t raise those risks either.

So what are the risks of doing this method?  Well for one people worry if some complications occur. They presume that the people who administer homebirths are not nurses and they are not medically inclined.  Well as a homebirth midwife in San Diego we do know medical procedures. All the necessary equipments for the common complications of a chilbirth are always with us.  Naturally any serious complications would have to be addressed by a doctor. But that is not far from what happens in a hospital.

Women who have low risk pregnancies are the only women recommended for homebirths.  If a woman is found to have possible complications any good midwife would not encourage this method.  This is standard procedure for all San Diego licensed midwife. This is standard procedure because they are limited in the medical procedures that they can do.  That is why they do make sure any high risk pregnancies are delivered in a hospital.

It will be very hard to convince those people who are not keen on undergoing this method. But for women who are not afraid to try this method and have low pregnancy risk then they should know that homebirth is a safe method to give birth.

Water birthing benefits

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

One uncommon way to give birth is water birthing but it is already gaining some popularity.  It isn’t the usual way of having a baby on a medical bed.But it is a safe method to undergo when giving birth to a baby.

So what we are going to do is look at the process and determine what benefits and advantages the babies and mothers will get from this process. These are going to come from experience that I have gained as a San Diego midwife.  First of all water birth is the process of having a baby in water.Usually, it is done in a tub full of warm water. It is said to be good for the baby because the baby also lived in a similar environment for almost 9 months.  They have been in water for 9 months and it helps the baby get adjusted.

There are also studies where it is shown to be beneficial in reducing birthing pains. That is a big relief for women to hear. Medicine is rarely used in this kind of delivery method.  I have performed many without medicine as well as many other midwives San Diego I have spoken with.

Is water birth method safe for babies and the mother?Studies says that most of the time it is safe to use.  There are a few instances when it isn’t advisable due to certain medical conditions. I have had that happen in my water birth San Diego service. Going to a specialist first is the best way.

Reduced skin tears is another benefit that pregnant mothers get from having a water birth.  This can be a painful occurence during delivery.  But having a baby in water helps lessen that possibility.Because it calms the skin.

This could be the right method of delivery for you if you just follow these procedures.  It has many benefits for both the mother as well as the baby.  As always consult your doctor first to see if it right for you.

Alternatives to labor and delivery

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

It is pretty much agreed that the usual way to have a baby is when you deliver in a hospital.Or to be more precise, a lot of people think that when you have a baby that you have to use medicine. In this article we hope to point out some facts that break those assumptions.  We are going to offer alternatives that might be better.

Of course these observations are going to be coming from the viewpoint of my experience running a San Diego midwife service. If you aren’t knowledgeable about midwives, they are women who are there to assist in the delivery process for women.Usually all the time without needing to use medicines in a homebirth.

So why do some women choose this method? For a quite a few women who do choose this method and understand it, they have several factors for it.

First off, the use of no medicine actually helps speed up the labor and delivery process.  Most women don’t realize that the use of medicine actually slows down the labor.Women always use it because they are told it helps with the pain, but in reality it makes the pain happen longer.  There are many certified midwives in San Diego who can show you proof of that.

Second, when you do use a natural method such as a waterbirth, it actually helps the muscles and the body because it soothes and relaxes during the delivery. This produces a delivery with less pain and makes having the delivery occur much faster.  I have seen it helping many women have a waterbirth in San Diego.

Those are just the beginning of many reasons that women have chosen a homebirth rather than the usual method of delivery.Even though there is no use of medicine and doctors aren’t usually present, it is still a safe alternative.  The delivery at home actually helps the delivery remain private and dignified.  Rather than in a hospital where there are several people who poke and prod through the labor.  So for these reasons many woman prefer a homebirth. It is a dignified and safe way and a process that is natural.

Some options for your pregnancy

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

One of the best times in a woman’s life is pregnancy.A lot of women really want to have kids.It is during those pregnancy months that those desires start to now come true.

During that pregnancy a lot of choices need to be made. One of those decisions and options is the method of delivery. It is a little strange to imply that there are different options be there are. Most women will chose to use medicine to help them have the baby. But there is a movement that is getting larger who decide to have the baby naturally. In other words no use of medicine to help with the delivery.  I have seen this from first hand experience as a San Diego midwife. It is taken from that experience that I am going to express various benefits.

Now why are some women choosing non medical delivery.  A couple of reasons.First point is that a lot of women are now realizing that medicine actually makes the delivery go slower.  When you are in pain and want to deliver as fast as possible, medicine defeats the purpose.  Many women are starting to realize that.  What women don’t realize is that they can do it that way. If they decide to go that route, they can decide on going with a midwife.  In my part of the country there are quite a few midwives in San Diego.

A midwife is able to help a woman gently deliver.  They could choose a waterbirth.Waterbirth is a way to delivery that uses water to ease the pain and ease the delivery.

Another thing is if a woman decides, a midwife can also help in a homebirth as well. Once again you can find a homebirth midwife in San Diego if you look.

The benefits of doing it at home is a relaxed and a less stressful environment. These two benefits alone make it inviting to have it naturally. If you are with child, it could be a decision you might want to consider.

Benefits of having a baby at home

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

The birthing of a baby is one of the most cherished moments of a woman’s life.  The experience of delivering a new life is like no other.  Although it comes with great pain, most women will agree it is worth it.

As a San Diego midwife I would like to share with you a method that you might not be aware of.It is also known as waterbirth.

Waterbirth has been called probably of all the methods of delivery the gentlest. It utilizes and requires the use of a bath or pool that is heated.A few woman will just use the water for the pain of the labor part. This is done because the water that is heated is very pain relieving.  It is soothing to the tissues.

Other women also use it to deliver the baby. They don’t leave the water till the delivery is all the way through.Even going through it all including delivering the placenta.

The whole process is usuallly performed and helped by someone called a midwife.  If you are in San Diego there are plenty of midwives San Diego. You are going to want to have an experienced one.

Why do quite a few women pick this way of delivering over the hosptial method? As mentioned previously, it is very painful the labor and delivery part.  Most women use drugs to cope with the pain. But for a few women, the last thing they want to do is have drugs harm the new baby.Using waterbirth for delivery helps ease some of the pain.  Because of the
heated water it soothes the tissues and helps with the pain.

Most women will have this procedure usually done naturally. They usually won’t use any drugs to dull the pain of labor.  Often times this actually helps the labor happen faster.Because when you use the drugs it can really slow down the labor.

It is really a safe alternate way of delivery. For some women who are wanting to have their baby naturally this might be a choice to go with.  I have seen many happy deliveries as a San Diego licensed midwife. All it will require of a woman is to do a little research and see for themselves
how safe it is.

How to Have a Joyous Delivery

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

One of the sad effects of our modern day and age in medicine is how birth and delivery have become a medical procedure.

That might seem foreign to some people because most people already think of delivery as being a medical event. But that is the big problem. It isn’t a medical event. It is an occassion that can be kept as private and as natural as possible through alternate methods.  Women
should be made aware that there are alternatives.

I would like to present one of those main alternatives from the perspective of a San Diego midwife.

That main way is by having a midwife assist you in a homebirth during your delivery.  This practice is known as midwifery and there are plenty of midwives San Diego.

As cesareans and induction rates soar in hospitals, it has turned the joyous event of a delivery into an negative experience.

That is one of the main reasons for the push for more natural births through a licensed midwife or certified midwife.

Birth and the delivery shouldn’t necessarily include drugs, invasive procedures, private areas constantly being probled, etc.   It can be done safely and effectively in a home environment through that homebirth method or even a waterbirth San Diego method.

It is an industry that is highly regulated. You are able to know all about a midwife’s experience and skill if you are considering hiring them.

But getting over that stigma of not having a baby in a hospital takes education.  But through experience and statistics most women can see that a lot of times having a baby in a hospital negatively effects the process. From potent drugs that are used ot slow the pregnancy down, or used to increase the speed of the pregnancy.  To having to go through a c-section.Hopefully women can see the comparisons and the contrast and see the success of using a midwife.

So for those women who want to try and keep the delivery of the baby a joyous occasion, using a midwife might be something they should look into.

With the day and age of the internet, finding information about the natural process is as easy as doing a search on the internet.

There they can find very helpful information so they can understand the process fully. They can view any safety concerns and how it is handled. And most importantly they are able to witness the keeping of the delivery of a child a monumental occasion that is kept private and is still a happy event.
